Moreland Little League Announces Commemoration of 1962 World Series Team
2012 Season dedicated to the 1962 Little League World
Series team that showed that teamwork is the key to victory.
An overlooked team that
defies the odds to take the ultimate prize is the story of the group of kids
who came together some 50 years ago to lay claim as Northern California’s only
Little League World Series Champion.
This story goes beyond the
victory, however, as it is about teamwork and how each of the players
contributed to the cause; it is about a time when uniforms were a luxury that was
out of reach for a middle class league from San Jose; it is about a time long
ago when urban Silicon Valley was still close to its rural roots, when it was
known as Valley of the Heart’s Delight.
To celebrate the achievement
of this team and to remember the lessons learned from a way of life that would
be foreign to today’s digital natives, Moreland Little League will be
commemorating the 50th anniversary of its Little League Series
victory in multiple ways throughout the
2012 season including:
June 2nd – Closing Day Ceremonies at Moreland Little
League
End of July – Opening Day of the Section 5, 10/11 All Stars to be
hosted at Moreland Little League’s facilities
At the end of August, members from the Moreland 1962 LLWC Team
will return to Williamsport, PA to enjoy the festivities of the 2012 LLWS
and to celebrate 50 years of excellence.
Details of the above events
will be available on the Moreland Little League web site, and past players and
MLL families as well as the general public and media are encouraged to join in
the fun.
